lay shirt down flat, pick it up from the center and twist, start putting rubber bands on it as tight as ya can(this will be the lines).Experiment with how far apart you put the bands for diff designs.Anyway twist all the way down and keep banding.Have your dye made up and start dippin or using something to pour the dye on.Let it sit like that till about dry and lightly rinse ,unband and hang it up to dry.Experiment with the rubber bands.I like to just wad up the shirt in a ball and start puttin bands on it and see what design it makes.Craft stores sell nice little kits for around 20 bucks too with complete instructions. I recommend Rit dye.

Q&A: Is it possible to dye silk temporarily?

Question by Melissa Swan: Is it possible to dye silk temporarily?
For example dye a garment blue for a while, then pink for a while, then red for a while….and keep changing the colour.

Best answer:

Answer by drip
No. To redye the garment you would have to remove all the color first. And that may not be possible. You really can not use bleach on silk. And all the dyeing and redyeing would damage the fibers of the fabric.

How do I spot treat a garment that was accidentally bleached?

Question by REGINAMIA: How do I spot treat a garment that was accidentally bleached?
some drops of beach fell on a favorite blouse. It is cotton (linen) and an unusual shade of blue/lavender. does anyone have advice about how to dye it? Is there a way to spot treat the bleached sections and then color the whole garment?

Best answer:

Answer by Shan
Yes, you can re-dye the blouse…in fact, it’s the only way to fix the bleach spots.

I don’t recommend using Rit Dye, tho. Rit Dye is just awful. I once dyed a pair of jeans with Rit and they turned my legs black every time I wore them, even after many washings. I finally just threw the jeans in the trash.

Dylon Dye is a much better choice. You can buy Dylon over the Internet. I only found one on-line store selling Dylon in lilac (which is the same as lavender):

Good luck.

Tie Dye: Can you wash 2 newly tie dyed things at the same time?

Question by : Tie Dye: Can you wash 2 newly tie dyed things at the same time?
Hi, I just tie dyed 2 things (pillowcase, teeshirt) with one of them being red&orange, then the other being green, blue, yellow, and slightly purple on the blue for a cool color effect. The instruction was printed for only 1 tie dye thing. Not two, like I have. When I wash them, can I wash them together, or do I still have to wash them separately? What would the result be if I washed them both together?
Thanks!

I would but they must be absolutely dry for them to go together

Q&A: If you tie dye two shirts, can you wash them together after?

Question by : If you tie dye two shirts, can you wash them together after?
Okay, so yesterday me and my friend made tie dye shirts. they’ve been sitting there for about 15 hours, so when I’m done i know i have to rinse the shirt and stuff and then wash them in detergent, but since we both made them can we wash them like together? I’m just not sure because i don’t know if you can wash them together or if the dye will get mixed up.

You can get those strips where thay catch any colour that runs so you can put any colours together. I don’t know how well they work though.

Is it possible to re-dye a garment?

Question by amarillo: Is it possible to re-dye a garment?
I dyed a 100% cotton skirt pink, but I used too little dye for the quantity of fabric, and now it’s a pastel shade which I don’t like at all. If I bought more of the same colour (or red), and dyed the fabric again, would it hold the new colour?
Yeah, I could try it and see, but the point of yahoo answers is to see if there’s anyone out there who could save me the cost of dye, a trip across town, and an afternoon wasted…

I think it would work. Try it. If it doesn’t work you are in no worse shape then before.
