Question by saintsvalentine: Why do my dark clothes change color in the washing machine?
Today I washed an olive green t shirt with other dark clothes. I use Woolite dark and oxyclean stain remover and cold water. The shirt came out with orange splotches all over it – like the dye had been removed somehow. None of the other garments were affected. Is this just a cheaply made shirt, or what?

oxiclean might be the problem. Dark clothes must be washed with a soap that is color fast. Like Cheer among others.

Question by Dior: if I dye a garment using Rit dye or something similar, will the dye bleed onto my other clothes?
How do I know if it will bleed or not? Do I need a comercial colour fixiative like Retayne?

bummer. if it is white clothing with spots, i have used bleach directly to the area, sometimes you may need to use a q-tip for a small/tight spot. but you must wash or at least rinse within a few minutes. for colored clothing, try dry bleach. sorry to say. if these hints don’t work, throw them away. hope this helps.
